Las Vegas Sign (Las Vegas, USA)

The iconic Las Vegas Sign was designed by Betty Willis as part of the Googie architecture movement, and was erected in May 1959. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on the 1st of May 2009. It is located in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, just south of Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino. The 25 foot tall diamond-shaped sign reads ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada’ on the front, and ‘Drive Carefully’ and ‘Come Back Soon’ on the reverse. The recent introduction of a small parking lot within the median has made the sign much safer to get to. This parking lot is accessible whilst driving south (away from Mandalay Bay), and has 10 standard spaces, 2 disabled spaces, and 2 large space for buses and limousines.
