    Beauchief Abbey (Sheffield, United Kingdom)

The remains of Beauchief Abbey lie 5 miles (8KM) to the south of Sheffield city centre. This Abbey was built between 1176 and 1183. Today, only the tower of the Abbey remains intact and the rest of the building is ruins. This tower is now used as a Church and regular services are held here. A great deal of the original estate has been converted into golf courses, but there are still woodland parks surrounding the Abbey, which has been declared a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Access to the area is free and it is open throughout the year.
