The Beeches is a nature spot in Lanark, South Lanarkshire, which serves as a walking and horse riding route. Connecting the south east area of Lanark with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark. In local contexts “The Beeches” generally refers to the section of the route between Hyndford Road, near Lanark Loch, and Braxfield Road, just east of New Lanark, however local tourist boards advertise “The Beeches” as a much more extensive route, beginning at Lanark Racecourse, going through Robbiesland Farm, past the Falls of Clyde and New Lanark and then up through “The Beeches” to Lanark Loch. The route traditionally referred to as “The Beeches” is so called because it is lined on both sides with mature Beech Trees. The area is also a site of historical interest, with a German plane having crash landed in the adjacent field during World War II. There are also several disused and ruined farm workers cottages suspected to be from the 19th to 20th centuries close to the route. “The Beeches” is a short walk from Lanark town centre, which is served by many buses and trains to and from Glasgow, Motherwell and Hamilton. Public toilets are available at Lanark Loch and New Lanark.
