    Borovets is the oldest Bulgarian ski resort with over 110 years of history. Today, Borovets is the most modern and biggest resort in Bulgaria. The resort is located on the northern slopes of the Musala Peak at the Rila Mountain, the highest mountain in Bulgaria. The resort offers ski runs, the highest of which are at 2600m above sea level. The ski season in Borovets is from December through to April. The coldest month is January with an average temperature of 5 Degrees C. The resort can be reached by car, it is 12 kilometres by first class road from Samokov and Sofia is about 7 kilometres away. There is a bus that runs to Samokov every 30 minutes. Several different winter sports competitions are held in Borovets, including the World Cup, which has been held here twice. Borovets also offers very good conditions for night- skiing, snowboarding, ski jumps and biathlon and there are specially designed ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers. The resort offers to its visitors: hotels, restaurants, night clubs and shops. Over 200 ski instructors serve the complex and many of them are former professional skiers. The Mountain Rescue Service is available 24 hours a day.
