    The Princes Palace, which was initially constructed as a fortress in 1191, is located on the Place du Palais which features brass cannons dating from the Louis XIV - period and hosts the changing of the guard at 11h55 daily. Genoese frescoes from the 16th-century as well as portraits and period furnishings can be viewed in the royal apartments. The palace is open to the public from June to October and visitors can view the courtyard which features 3 million pebbles in various designs and a Carrara marble stairway. The courtyard is also used for open air concerts and certain official events. Opening hours are from 09h30 to 18h00 during June to September and from 10h00 to 17h00 during October. An entrance tariff of 7€ is levied for adults and for children aged 8 to 14 it is 5€.
