The 3-star Riverside Hotel Kendal hotel overlooks the River Kent in the market town of Kendal — the gateway to the Lake District National Park. This converted 18th Century tannery is within a five-minute walk of the market place, Kendal Museum and Kendal Railway Station, while Kendal Castle and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery are within 15 minutes’ walk. All 58 bedrooms are en-suite and come with Freeview TV, free Wi-Fi, a hospitality tray, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and an iron. Most have river views, two junior suites are available and eight “fur-free” rooms allow no pets. Riverside Hotel Kendal has two meeting rooms, free undercover parking for 40 cars, and a health club including pool, spa, sauna, steam room and gym. The River View Restaurant and Bar’s menus change daily, produce grown in the hotel’s Victorian kitchen garden is used where possible, and breakfasts are available. Windermere is 8.4 miles away.

The staff were found to be friendly and helpful and the bar staff particularly good, although a few members were reported to be inexperienced and a bit unprofessional. The hotel is also very pet friendly, with pets allowed in most rooms.
You will find the hotel to look grand from outside, while the rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious, with nice spa and pool facilities and good parking, although a few guests said there was not a huge amount of space in either of the latter.
A few disabled guests staying at Riverside found problems with the hotel’s disabled access and there appears to be a lot of stairs throughout the hotel, so it is perhaps not the best for the mobility-impaired.
While many found the buffet-style breakfasts good, others were disappointed to find the hot options were not always hot, some items would run out leaving a poor selection and a few thought the ingredients were not of a very high quality.
A handful of those who stayed found their rooms uncomfortably warm at night since they were unable to control the temperature.
