Positive Reviews
positive:
Exuberant classical decor
While it could never be everybody's cup of tea, the majority of guests clearly liked the exuberant classical decor that was a theme throughout the hotel - from the public areas all the way to the room bathrooms. Guests were definitely not confused about what city they were in. It could only have been Rome.
positive:
Lovely rooftop terrace
While guests didn't say it had a particularly good view, they nonetheless did find the terrace that led off the penthouse area to be quite an attractive area. They seemed to enjoy heading up there for a quick drink after returning from a day of sightseeing.
positive:
Walking distance to Termini Station
Several guests commented that, while the hotel was within walking distance of Termini station, the neighbourhood was quite a bit nicer than was to be found immediately outside the station. They felt they got the benefit of being reasonably close to the station, but without the cost.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Rooms a bit small
While guests realised that they were in a central position in one of Europe's most densely populated cities, they felt that the rooms at Des Epoques were a bit too small. If it had been a budget hotel they could have accepted small rooms, but felt its star rating demanded bigger rooms.
negative:
Long waits for the lift
The lift was described by a number of guests as being very small and simply inadequate to the task of ferrying about the number of guests staying at the hotel.
negative:
Some maintenance issues
This was a curious complaint, because it was clear that it affected only some guests and rooms. It seems that the hotel has rooms in various states of renovation, and those with older rooms felt that they had not been properly maintained.
