Private rooms accommodate up to four persons. All rooms have their own reverse cycle air conditioning unit. Bathroom and toilet facilities are shared. The suntrap balcony at Backpack Oz has views to the Adelaide Hills. Luggage storage, free bicycle hire, book exchange and pool table are among the supplied facilities. Free Wi-Fi applies at Backpacker Oz. There’s a Happy Hour in the licensed bar and a welcoming beer garden. Continental breakfast is served daily and there’s a fully equipped communal kitchen for guest use. Louca’s Seafood Grill is a neighbouring restaurant. There are several Coles and IGA supermarkets in the area. Torrens University buildings are close by. Adelaide’s Botanic Garden, Oval and Town Hall, are within a few hundred yards of the property.
It's probably the cheapest accommodation around; certainly the private rooms. Other guests seem nice and friendly and there's a warm welcome and lots of helpful advice on places to go in the city, from the members of staff.
It's a good location and the journey to City Airport is easy and very swift; about 15 minutes. The neighbouring shops, restaurants, takeaways, supermarkets and communal kitchen, enable you to tailor costs to suit your budget. The main Victoria Square (Tarndanyangga) is an easy walk away, so you couldn't be much closer to the city centre.
The accommodation is quite clean and a major plus is that the much-needed air conditioning is quiet and effective.
It's all very free and easy here but some guests take advantage and party through the night. Consequently, sleeping isn't easy here. It's good not to have rules but clearly a few are needed. The neighbouring street doesn't help the noise factor either.
The building is quite elderly and needs some TLC. The lack of a door on the female toilet is one example. There are further problems for females in the dormitory. Smoke wafts in here from the outside smoking area.
There's limited Wi-Fi. It's not in the guesthouse at all. Inconvenient; but, in fairness, they do advertise the fact. They don't supply towels and soap, which is surprising. Breakfast is less than brilliant but there's always the DIY option, or go to a brekkie cafe such as East Terrace Continental.
