    Tower 42 (London, United Kingdom)

Tower 42 is a skyscraper building in the City of London. It is named for the number of floors, but it is also known as the NatWest Tower as it was originally intended to house the bank’s international division. It is now occupied by a range of service companies and restaurant facilities. When it opened in 1981 it was the tallest building in the UK at 600 feet, although its height was controversial when designed. It has since been surpassed by One Canada Square in Docklands and the Heron Tower, also in the city, and more tall buildings are planned. The structure of the tower is based on cantilevers and the shape of the building round the cantilevers resembles, in cross-section the NatWest logo. Although the cantilevers give the building strength, it is considered to be at the expense of internal space. The office accommodation is fully serviced with an on-site concierge and reception desk. On floor 24 there is a Gary Rhodes restaurant and on the top floor is Vertigo 42, a champagne bar with views over London.
