Between 1920 and 1947 the Castle was one of the residences of the Romanian royal family. It was transformed into a museum in 1957. It is located 25KM from the city of Brasov and is easily reached by public transport; there are day excursions available from Brasov and the Romanian capital Bucharest but it is also possible to find accommdation in the village of Bran. As well as the castle, the admission fee covers entrance to a small ethnographic museum situated at the foot of the hill that is home to a selection of historically diverse rural cottages and other buildings that have been brought form all over Romania and rebuilt for display here. The museum within the castle contains a collection of important icons, central European furniture, ceramics, sliver and an armoury.
