Peter Zirknitzer, known as ‘Zirky’ to most is one of Mount Hotham’s iconic characters. Peter first came to Australia in the 1950’s as a ski instructor from Austria and after teaching many Australians how to ski including his wife Heather, he stayed for good. Together, Peter and Heather started Zirky’s as a small ski hire and snack bar in the 1970’s which grew with every season to include a terrace bar, restaurant, bistro, accommodation, ski hire and shop, with the largest addition of 30 apartments. Zirky’s has been a family run business for over 35 years.
