Positive Reviews
positive:
Perfect blend of excitement and relaxation
Book a balcony room for optimum peace and relaxation, or make the most of the lounge rather than the bar for a quieter ambience. If it's bustling you're looking for, previous guests have loved the traditional luau; complete with fire dances, singing and dancing performances, and opportunities to get involved.
positive:
Clean, spacious, no-frills accommodation
While few would describe it as luxury, most find the rooms at the Royal Kona Resort to be sufficient; spacious, with comfortable beds, good air conditioning, and kept clean by staff.
positive:
Within walking distance to everything
The hotel enjoys a prime oceanfront location in Kailua Bay, within walking distance to the downtown restaurants, bars, shops and Kona Pier. With farmers markets also nearby and beaches a short drive away, there should be plenty to keep you occupied.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Outdated in places
Some guests suggest that the hotel would benefit from some upgrading. Carpets are frayed in places, the fitness center has seen better days, and the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom are dated. Many also find the pool far too warm and think it is likely due to the painted bottom.
negative:
Pay for Wi-Fi
Many guests are disappointed to discover that the hotel charges for Wi-Fi- and the fees are considerable and charged daily. While complimentary internet access is provided from a hotspot in the Mai Tai Bar, this is far from convenient for most.
negative:
Parking fees
If you have a vehicle with you, you'll need to find somewhere to park it and, especially during Summer, this can be tough in the popular area surrounding the hotel. There is a hotel car park you can use but spaces are few and far between and you will need to pay a daily fee for the privilege.
