About Norseman Hotel
Situated in the very heart of Wick, the Hotel Norseman Hotel offers accommodation with a small Viking influence and traditional Scottish hospitality.
The rooms are quite modern, but have a bit of a traditional Scottish feel to them. Each features en-suite bathroom, flat screen TV with freeview channels, work desk and telephone. The rooms look out either over the River Wick or the hotel’s lovely gardens.
Reception is on hand to assist with local information and other matters, while motorists will find sufficient on-site parking. The Hotel Norseman Hotel also has facilities for weddings or business functions for up to 150 people.
The on-site Crofters Restaurant offers the very best of Scottish cuisine, prepared from the very highest quality local produce. The Wickers Bar also offers light meals and drinks.
Wick is one of the closest towns of any size to John ‘O Groats, and in fact the John ‘O Groats Centre is just across the river from the Hotel Norseman.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Decent food at the restaurant
While guests didn't describe it as the best food they ever had, they did say it was solid hearty fare that was very tasty, well presented and served in good size portions. There were certainly very, very few complaints, with guests feeing it filled any gaps more than adequately.
positive:
Ample free parking on-site
Several motorists were very relieved to find that they didn't need to struggle to find street parking, since the hotel had ample off-site parking in their own lot.
positive:
Very convenient location
The location of the hotel is described as pretty central. Guests felt that the pubs, restaurants and public transport of the town were all well within walking distance.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Décor a bit too dated
While it appears that some interior refurbishment has taken place, it was clear as of late as April 2016 that not all rooms had been updated. Guests in the older rooms speak of décor that should have been changed at least 10 years ago. Aesthetically sensitive guests should perhaps check on the current update status with the hotel beforehand.
negative:
Exceptionally ugly exterior
While guest's issues with the interior were relatively small, those commenting on the exterior really didn't like the hotel's appearance from the outside at all. It was described as being a typical 1960's/70's building that certainly did not age well, with lots of bare concrete that was quite unattractive.
negative:
A bit overpriced
Several guests felt that they did not get very good value for money. Considering the fact that Wick is a small town, and that the quality of the hotel is very middle of the road, they felt the room-rates were far too high.
