Positive Reviews
positive:
Spectacular beachfront location
Of course any property in Newport Beach that, in fact, has no other buildings between it and the beach is going to be appreciated for its location. This was certainly the case here, with guests loving the fact that the beach and the Pacific Ocean were just a few steps away. They also liked that there was a good selection of restaurants, shops and other amenities on nearby Newport Boulevard.
positive:
Free bikes and boards
A number of guests were very impressed to find that not only were bicycles and surfboards available onsite, but were in fact free of charge for hotel guests, allowing them to explore the promenade or experience a bit of the California surf.
positive:
Terrific staff all round
Guests were clearly impressed with the hotel’s staff, with the reception staff coming in for special praise for being incredibly friendly and helpful when guests needed information or assistance.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Breakfast very disappointing
Too many guests to mention reported finding the in-house breakfast to be quite disappointing. While they didn’t typically go into much detail as to what the exact problem was, the general feeling was that they could do better by seeking out a breakfast elsewhere.
negative:
Some rooms without windows
Many guests mentioned that a large number of rooms at the hotel not only do not have sea views, but have no conventional windows at all, having only skylights. Those allocated one of these rooms seemed to find them a bit gloomy and claustrophobic.
negative:
Noisy bar next door
A number of guests complained that their sleep was affected by noise from a nearby bar. It seems that this mostly affects rooms on one side of the hotel, so light sleepers are advised to speak with reception about room allocation beforehand
