Positive Reviews
positive:
Good value, basic accommodation
South Yorkshire is a no-nonsense sort of area; known for its friendliness, sense of humour and heart of gold. You'll find all these facets at The Star where, yes, there are some rough edges. It depends what price you put on the factors just mentioned.
positive:
Clean, tidy and with bags of hot water.
Even in some of the really pricey, top- end hotels, you can find things that are a bit iffy and grubby. Unless you are really unlucky, you'll have nothing to complain about on the cleanliness front. Also, shower to your heart's content; there's lots of lovely hot water.
positive:
Good pub grub.
The food is fine. Plenty of it and well cooked. Served by friendly and efficient staff … what more could you want.
Negative Reviews
negative:
It's a noisy pub with added accommodation.
It's got quite a lot going for it, but a ‘hotel', it isn't. Loud music is a real feature and a turn-off, even when you turn the TV on to full volume to compensate.
negative:
A word about the facilities …
Overlooking the mould in the bedroom, the TV is tiny and positioned so that you can't see it. The owners should note that the term ‘toiletries' is not confined to one bar of soap! Shampoo is an essential, but absent, requirement. Also, that soap should be new and not one obviously used by a previous guest! Outside, parking can be somewhat difficult.
negative:
No breakfast.
You can survive very well on the food served here when the pub is open. A breakfast option would add quite a lot to the appeal.
