Top-drawer location.
Having the beach and the Prom right on your doorstep is of course a massive bonus, as is the ease with which you can walk into the town centre. The views from the restaurant and sea-facing guest rooms are pretty amazing too.
This traditional seafront hotel is located right on Whitley Bay Promenade, just yards from the beach. Along with its prime location, the Hotel Rex hotel offers hearty meals and sweeping views of the Northumberland coast. There are 69 individually decorated guest bedrooms, all of which feature en-suite bathrooms with complementary toiletries. Flat-screen TVs, direct-dial telephones and tea/coffee making facilities are also included. Some rooms afford sea views. Free WiFi is accessible in all public areas and complementary car parking is offered on a 'first-come, first-served' basis. A lift serves all floors. Lunch and complementary breakfasts are served in the sea-facing restaurant. Hot drinks and snacks are available at the deli and coffee shop. Night owls can enjoy a tipple in one of three bars and dance the night away in the on-site night club. The Blue Reef Aquarium is a 25-minute walk from the Hotel Rex. Newcastle is ten miles away.

With a Continental offering that includes fresh fruit, stewed prunes and cereal, and a full English complete with black pudding (a bit of a rarity these days); you're assured of a satisfactory start to your day when you tuck in here. Plentiful tea, coffee and toast with preserves tops things off nicely!
It isn't just the impressive amount of square feet-per-room which makes the Rex's accommodations feel nice and large; it's also the lovely big windows which let in lots of natural daylight. The overall effect is very pleasant indeed.
Be sure to bring some ear plugs with if you decide to book a stay that includes a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. The sound of thumping bass from the on-site nightclub – 'Deep' - goes on incessantly until 03.00!
Although guests staying in lower floor accommodations may find it possible to 'fluke' their way onto the Hotel's wireless Internet, it is generally the case that Wi-Fi isn't available in guest rooms. Not a deal-breaker by any means but you'd think that, in this day and age, a hotel of this stature would make the effort to ensure it's guests are able to log-on at their leisure.
Whilst it must have look pretty impressive in its hey-day, it is fair to say that some parts of the Rex look like they could do with a little TLC now. Fortunately, a refurbishment is on the cards so hopefully this issue will soon be addressed.
