About Le Saint Malo
Situated in the heart of the city just one block from St Catherine’s Street, Montréal’s main shopping street, Le Saint Malo is a small hotel offering clean accommodation suitable for budget travellers.
The rooms are quite basic in terms of décor and furniture, but reasonably well-equipped. They feature all you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including cable TV, en-suite bathrooms and even minibars.
The focus here is on the rooms and reasonable prices, and there are few public amenities. The reception staff are on hand limited hours and ready to assist.
A simple breakfast is available at the hotel every morning. There are a number of great restaurants in the immediate neighbourhood, with both French-Canadian and more exotic cuisines well represented.
The attractions of downtown Montréal are well within walking distance of Le Saint Malo, with St. Catherine’s Street starting just a block away. Those attending events at the Bell Centre will have less than a mile to travel.

Pretty decent location
It seems that it was the location of the hotel that most impressed guests during their stay. Many mentioned that it was reasonably central, with downtown Montreal's shopping, entertainment and commercial activities all well within walking distance.

Though guests didn't quite say that they felt they received good value for money, quite a few did say that the room rates were particularly low, and felt the hotel could be a good bet for guests who just want a roof over their head in a pretty central spot.

Staff understand neither French nor English
Many guests said that it was, to all intents and purposes, impossible to communicate with any of the staff in either French or English, since it seemed none of them understood either language. This made for a very frustrating experience, with guests unable to understand or be understood at the hotel.

Very poor cleanliness standards
An incredible number of guests had serious complaints when it came to the cleanliness of the hotel. Both the public areas, and especially the rooms, were said to be very poorly cleaned, with stains, dust and many other issues being raised. Many guests clearly did not seem happy staying in such conditions.

Incredibly poor breakfast
Guests had some incredibly bad things to say about the breakfast, with it seeming that the owners were often unprepared to supply anything at all, despite it being included in the room rate, and when something was supplied it was incredibly poor, perhaps something like a stale piece of bread and cup of tea.
