Positive Reviews
positive:
Quaint small town lodging
You can imagine that this is what all hotels were like fifty years ago; quaint and full of character. While some guests might take issue with how old everything is, others love it and feel that it adds charm to an old and rustic property.
positive:
Fine restaurant on-site
The food served in the restaurant downstairs has been very well received by all that have eaten there. In fact, some guests were plainly disappointed that they could not stay longer to sample more of the menu.
positive:
Great location
The beach, the Metra, and the university all within ten minutes’ walk make this the ideal base for visiting Evanston. You also have plenty of dining options right on your doorstep and some wonderful walks and cycling paths to make use of.

Has potential
So this hotel is quite the historic building, but guests have found that the entire place is in need of some work to bring it up to date. Broken tiles, worn carpets, and rickety furniture all need to be sorted out before this place gets top marks. However, the owners have stated that they intend to refurbish.
negative:
Cleanliness issues
Perhaps it is because the rooms are so old but it seems that the housekeeping staff just cannot get this place clean. There is dust everywhere, and guests were very disappointed with the state of the bathrooms.
negative:
Musty smells
The air con units are quite antiquated, and so if they are not used, they tend to get a bit smelly. This damp and musty smell is said to permeate its way through the entire hotel and is not what you would call welcoming.
