About New Overlander Inn
Situated in convenient spot just yards from Penally BR Station, and 10 minutes walk from the wild beaches, Hotel New Overlander is a boutique family-run guest house offering comfortable accommodation and a popular local restaurant.
There are just five rooms, all furnished and decorated in a country cottage style. Each features en-suite bathroom with toiletries, flat screen TV with freeview channels, clock radio and tea/coffee station.
Hotel New Overlander is a small establishment, and aside from the restaurant there aren’t really any public facilities. The hosts will, of course, be more than happy to assist with local knowledge and advice.
Hotel New Overlander is perhaps better known for its restaurant, which serves British and European favourites in a club-like atmosphere, including full cooked breakfasts.
The wild and beautiful Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, with its popular Coast Path, is undoubtedly the main area attraction. The centre of Tenby itself is about two miles away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Convenient location for beach and station
While guests didn't really like the location if heading in to Tenby on foot, they certainly loved it in all other respects. The National Park and its Coastal Path was just a couple of minutes away, and guests arriving by train found Penally Station just steps from the guest house.
positive:
Very good food at the restaurant
While there were one or two contrary opinions, the overwhelming majority of guests loved the food on offer at New Overlander. It is in fact much better known for its restaurant than for its accommodation, and seems to have a strong local following.
positive:
Rooms had that “cosy” feeling
While of course guests couldn't exactly fully put this into words, many indicated that they found their rooms, for want of a better word “cosy”. They seemed to feel at home and at peace in them.
Negative Reviews
negative:
A bit of noise from the road
There were quite a number of comments about the noise from both the trains passing by and the cars along the busy road outside. Some guest found that their sleep was disturbed.
negative:
Beds a bit uncomfortable
While hotel reviews always have a few complaints about bed comfort, simply because of differences in tastes, it seems that some of the beds at New Overlander may have bigger problems than merely being a little too hard or soft. Guests speak about them being “lumpy”, and somewhat uncomfortable.
negative:
Not the best for Tenby
While it is possible to walk in to Tenby, either along the beach or the road, several guests mentioned that the New Overlander wasn't in the best location if your main destination was in fact Tenby. The road was said to be a somewhat unattractive and it wasn't practical walking along the beach all the time.
