The hostal, Hostal Felipe II is only a few minutes’ walk from Verdaguer Metro Station and is located, just off the ‘Diagonal’. Room choices are en-suite, or with shared facilities. Most include air conditioning/heating and some have a balcony. A TV, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi, bed linen and towels, are among the standard inclusions. A luggage storage facility is available at Hostal Felipe II and there is a computer station for guests’ use. Safes are available if required. This Eixample area of Barcelona is home to many bars, restaurants and shops. Bonpreu and Lidl are supermarkets that are of interest to the self caterer. Breakfast alternatives include Buenas Migas Passeig de Gracia, which opens very early each morning. A Gianni, Hungaryto and Rene are among the many local restaurants. It is a 20-minute metro journey to Plaza de Catalunya and Las Ramblas and approximately two miles to Nord Bus Station and Sants Railway Station.
The location is handy for access for all the delights that Barcelona has to offer. The metro station is nearby so you can get to virtually anywhere quite easily and quickly; plus there's a bus stop right outside. In the immediate area, there are plenty of cheap bars and restaurants, plus a useful Carrefour mini-market is close by ...*useful if self catering.
No problems. Everyone is very nice and helpful and rooms are cleaned daily - and thoroughly. The shared bathroom isn't a problem and some ‘non-en-suite' rooms have a shower and are only lacking a loo. Rooms and bathrooms aren't clean … they're SUPER clean and sparkling!
This is not just a convenient and fairly central setting; it's also attractive in its own right and at night, very quiet.
The only noise that you are likely to encounter is that coming from fellow guests.
You need to log in with Facebook which some folk aren't happy with. The email function can be unreliable too.
There are no major issues here so you'll need to resort to minor niggles. Why bother paying for an en-suite room when the hot water supply is so iffy! Go to the (immaculate) public showers and there's lots of hot water. It's strange that, in this seemingly perfect hostal… *there's even a dispenser for purified hot and cold water! … they don't supply soap. Very strange!
