About Beltana Station

Beltana Station (incorporating Puttapa Station) covers nearly 1/2 a million acres and is a fully working sheep and cattle station. Beltana station was first surveyed in 1854 and has played a part in South Australias early history. Sir Thomas Elder and Robert Barr Smith both owned Beltana station and through this association the Beltana Pastarol company was founded. Beltana was a part of this company up until 1983. Sir Thomas Elder imported camels some of the first in S.A and Beltana station became one of the most successful breeding depots in Australia. Experditions were started from Beltana in the early days. One of the most successful was Ernest Giles 1875 experdition to W.A and back. Visitors are welcome to explore the history of the station.
